Today’s Financial Challenge: The Gypsy Switch
June 23, 2008 | Written by: Connie Brooks

Good morning ladies and gents! It’s Monday again, and that means it’s time for another financial challenge!
This week’s mission (should you choose to accept it) is: The Gypsy Switch
The gypsy switch is best defined as a sleight of hand trick: You swap something of great value (say, a $100 bill) with something of lesser value (like a $20 bill).
So flex your muscles and get your magician’s hat ready, because we’re going to take the gypsy switch on the road. When you are at the grocery store this week, I want you to take a close look at your cart and see if there are three things you can do a quick gypsy switch with.
Ever been tired of paying $6 for breakfast cereal or oatmeal? Try the gypsy switch with your family. When they aren’t looking swap that $5 box of instant oatmeal with a $3 off brand.
Need cleaning products? No problem! A little sleight of hand an that $6 can of bleach wipes can be swapped for a small bottle of bleach (or rubbing alcohol) and some old rags. Cleaning products are harsh enough, why pay for the extra additives and the company’s latest commercial?
Can you think of any other items you can use the gypsy switch on? Nearly any off brand will do - just take the plunge and try it, your family may never know the difference, but your pocketbook will!
