Product Review: VistaPrint Checks Why Pay More?

June 15, 2008 | Written by: Connie Brooks

Vista Print ChecksThere are some things in life I am willing to spend exorbant amounts of money on when I have to. Gas. Electricity. Air Conditioning. Food. Checks….wait! Checks?

If you’re anything like me you’re probably sick to death of having to pay $45 just to re-order checks. Oh, trust me, no one advertises them at that price! But by the time you take on a $2 fee for lettering, $5 for carbon copies, $4 for a little picture in the top left corner…$25 for shipping (yes I’m serious, this is how much it cost at one of the companies I investigated!) you have to go into debt just to have checks printed up.

The Upside: I am happy to say that I finally discovered VistaPrint. I got a nice set of checks there for under $5. Cute little photos, and alternate fonts are included. They arrived on schedule, everything was correct, and quite simply, I will never use another printing service for my checks again.

Three specific highlights of the VistaPrint experience:

  1. VistaPrint has an unusually large selection of font options for their checks - something that I have not seen anywhere else.
  2. I was able to put a message of my own between the “amount” and signature lines. I took advantage of it and used the address of this website - www.ThriftyMamas.com. I have not seen this anywhere else either.
  3. If you sign up with Vista Print’s website, they send you an email within the first hour that offers you 50% off on the item of your choice. Voila! Half price checks.

The downside: I got the checks for $5, but had to pay $15 for rush shipping. Procrastination is expensive. They also do not have a huge selection so if you are looking for the latest greatest Disney or Nascar checks, you will have to look elsewhere.

You can check out their checks and other printables online at www.VistaPrint.com. Don’t forget you can sign up with their website to get 50% off your order.
