Children’s Product Recalls for April 2008

- Nintendo Lapel Pins Recalled - Lead Paint Violations. The pins included Mario, Donkey Kong, Princess Peach and Pikachu to name a few. They were sold in Washington and New York from 2004 - 2007.
- Avon Recalls “Infant Santa Outfits” - These are a choking hazard. They were sold in Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
- Avon Recalls Basketball and Flower Tables - These are being recalled because of lead paint violations. They were sold in Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
- Beco Baby Carrier Recalls “Beco Butterfly” Infant Carriers - The shoulder strap buckle can accidentally come loose, causing the baby to fall out.
- Wal-Mart Recalls Charm Key Chains - These violate the U.S. Lead paint standards.
- Santa’s Toy Corp. Recalls “Western Rider” Push Toys- Lead Paint Violations. These were sold at discount stores between 2005 and 2008.
- Hobby-Lobby Int’l Recalls Battery Chargers Used with Helicopters - These are a fire hazard. They use lithium-polymer batteries that can catch fire when you charge them.
- Michaels Stores Recalls Seasonal Writing Pens - Lead paint violations. Pens recalled include: Flower Writers; Christmas Writers; Easter Writers; and Spooky Writers Seasonal Writing Pens.
- FUNTASTIC Recalls Fake Hillbilly Teeth - The surface paint violates the U.S. Lead paint standards.
- OKK Trading Recalls Toy Robots - These violated the lead paint safety standards.
- Dalmation Press Recalls Children’s Board Book Sets - The book sets include small parts that are a choking hazard
- Fun ‘N Games Magnetic Dart Boards Recalled - it is possible for children to swallow the magnets, and this can be deadly. From the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC):
“Small magnets at the ends of the darts can detach. Magnets found by young children can be swallowed or aspirated. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforations or blockages, which can be fatal.”
- Dollar Tree Recalls Plush Insect Toys -These toys can contain small parts, they are a choking hazard.
- Toys “R” Us Imaginarium Activity Centers Recalled - Small parts can detach and be a choking hazard for young children.
- StyleMark recalls Children’s ‘Main Street Drag’ Sunglasses - The painted lettering on the glasses violates US lead paint standards.
- Children’s Hooded Sweatshirts Recalled by Brents-Riordan Inc. - The drawstring in the hood can be a strangulation hazard.
- Gas Water Heaters Recalled - While this is not specifically a children’s product recall, I thought it was important. These heaters can malfunction and leak carbon monoxide. They are also a fire hazard. Please check it out and make sure you are not using this brand in your home!
