Review: FlyLady’s Office in a Bag

April 7, 2008 | Written by: Connie Brooks

I am a huge advocate of having your financial papers together, in a safe place, in case something happens to you or your loved ones. If something ever did happen, you would need health insurance information, life insurance information, phone numbers to reach the different companies, you get the idea.

I keep my credit information in there too, in case I ever have to deal with identity theft.

So where do I put my important paperwork? I keep in in my “Office in a bag“. My portable office holds important phone numbers, investment information, past bank statements, insurance information, even copies of our birth certificates.

Why I love my Office in a bag:

#1) It has a zipper. Nothing can fall out if I need to pick it up and go. It has my emergency contact information, emergency phone numbers, literally everything I need in one place. As long as I know where to find that binder, I know I am covered (or my husband is) in case something happens. This is just like having a will, or even a living will. It is something you hope you will never need, but you had better be able to find it if you do need it. My portable office solved that problem.

I would imagine that you could use it for anything you want, I just use it for my most important paperwork. The stuff that would otherwise be stuck in a drawer somewhere and totally missing in an emergency.

#2) It’s washable. I’ve washed mine several times. With a young child, anything I own has to be washable and nearly indestructible or it just doesn’t last. This particular bag has survived, juice, colas, water and even a fuzzy red towel accidentally thrown into the wash with it. It’s a good product. I’d buy it again if I had to, but I doubt I will ever need to.

You can find our more about the brand I like here. If you are putting important paperwork into it, you probably don’t want to go with a cheap Walmart brand. At least I didn’t. I wanted something that I knew would stand the test of time and not end up with the zipper ripped off or thrown under the bed in 6 months. All in all, I’m very happy with it.
