There have been quite a few additional children’s product recalls this month.
You can click on any of the links for more information on each recalled product.
The links below will also tell you how to contact the manufacturer for a refund or replacement product.
February 2008 Children’s Product Recalls:
- Cinderella 12-Volt Electric Ride-On Vehicles - The wires under the hood and in the seat of the mini-car can short circuit and cause a fire or burns to children in the vehicle. There have been over 40 reported injuries. The car was sold as the “Walt Disney’s Cinderella Special Edition Pontiac Solstice”.
- Wendy Bellissimo Hidden Hills Collection Drop-Side Cribs - Entrapment and strangulation hazard. The spindles on the drop side of the crib can come loose and leave a gap. The crib was sold at Babies “R” Us stores from November to January.
- A Life of Faith Charm Bracelet Sets - Recalled because some of the beads contain excessive levels of lead.
- Spiderman® Water Bottles - Sold Nationwide at Sears, the screws underneath the lid can come loose and pose a choking hazard to children.
- Aloha Portable Electric Heaters - These heaters can overheat and melt, possibly starting a fire.
- Children’s Memory Testing Cards - Made by Riverside Publishing. Recalled because of lead paint violations.
- Children’s Metal Necklaces by Peco - Recalled due to lead paint violations. The necklaces are shaped like a heart, a lock and a cat with pink and white rhinestones.
- Magnetic Dart Boards recalled by Family Dollar - The magnets can come loose and be swallowed by children.
Magnets can be a very serious threat to your child. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission explains why magnets can hurt your kids here.(PDF File)

Let's Talk!

Sheesh, is anything safe anymore? No wonder so many parents are nervous wrecks. :-/
Crystal,
Thanks for your comment! I love your blog. Anyone who has not already checked it out can visit it here. I always have a good time when I read it, and normally learn something I did not know! As mom’s we can all use some fun beauty help - me especially.
As for toy safety, not many things are safe. That is why I am so dedicated to the product recalls. I may not always post much else around here, but those get put up!
I can tell you from experience that:
1) Magnets are never safe! If you have a young child, get rid of them all. Many popular toys (like Polly Pockets) can include magnets. I have personally thrown away several sets of toys that were magnetic/alphabet toys for my daughter. I did not even donate them because I could not stand the thought of something happening to someone else’s child.
2) Dollar Store Toys are never safe. It may look like a bargain, but in 90% of cases its covered with lead.
3) Research your crib carefully - there are tons of cribs and co-sleepers recalled every year because they can collapse with the baby in them.
That’s about all the bad news - and most of them I’m sure you already know - it just never hurts to get them out there one more time.
It’s a really good thing my daughter’s favorite toy is the remote control, that’s all I can say lol.
Thanks for the tips, and I’m glad you enjoy my site. ;)
And it’s funny that your daughter’s favorite toy’s the remote control. Mine is too. If she can’t have that or my cell phone, she’s ticked off! LOL
